Techniques, training and practice: surya/chandra namaskar, standing postures, back care basics, restorative and yoga nidra. Students will learn these fundamental components of practice with special attention to transitions between postures, preparation for complete sequences with a breakdown of elements and, with the perspective of several senior teachers. Alignment, understanding of variations of “normal” and indicators of distress are foundational to this series.
Students will learn most common asana, pranayama and meditation techniques through practice, learn teaching techniques through demonstration and reflection and will have opportunities to practice advanced variations. Successful students will demonstrate their ability to execute postures in a way that reflects their ability to achieve a balance of ease and effort.
The Foundations of Yoga series includes opportunity for students to practice observing bodies, alignment, indicators of reactivity and/or receptivity in students. Successful students will be able to recognize structural variations in bodies that may effect students’ experience in asana practice. They will learn to offer modifications and adaptations and to encourage students to recognize their own postural foundations and habits.
